Trying out new material
Since working on the script I have been looking for places to try out my new material. I performed 5 minuets of new writing at Owl on the Roof Theatre in Bristol (pictured). I learnt a lot about how performing such a short snippet of work can affect the feeling of the piece.
I has been a long time since I performed spoken text, I was much more anxious than I anticipated. I believe this came across in my performance and affected how the piece was interpreted. With this in mind, I'm going to keep attending scratch nights so that I can comfortably hold the space for the audience.
I am still tweaking the script and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. I have multiple performances lined up of varying lengths, so I will need to be proactive in ensuring that the scrip is suitable for each showing.
It has been really interesting choosing what stories to tell, how to tell them and maintaining the balance of light & dark.
Watch this space for updates on performances in the coming months.
