ASSEMBLE Festival: Research and Development & The Performance
Recently I performed at Assemble Festival at Streatham Space Project. It was an incredible experience, the feedback I received was incredible, I will discuss that in another post.
I am incredibly grateful to Streatham Space Project for giving me the opportunity to perform. As well the stage time, I also received a day of in kind studio time.
Being in a studio again, researching and developing this project made me really excited to perform. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Bee Kirkwood. Bee came to direct during my studio day, having such a considerate outside eye instantly comforted me knowing the show was in good hands.
Working on this as a solo project, it's just me working for so long it can be hard to hand over the rains.
The performance went well. Although I felt like I rushed, I was told by multiple audience members that they didn't feel rushed. I managed to remember all 25 mins of solo monologue script, which I am very pleased with.
I found that I struggled to connect with the audience as I couldn't see their faces. In future performances I will know to ask for some low house lights, so I can see and connect with the audience better.
The venue did not have aerial rigging, so Bee and I created some beautiful physical theatre sequences. I am looking forward to tying the aerial performance, physical theatre and text together for future showings.
